Milk Made is pleased to introduce you to our new friends, Paddle8.
Paddle8 is an online destination for viewing, conceptualizing, and purchasing unique pieces of contemporary art. Their interactive platform, created as a collaboration between Alexander Gilkes, Aditya Julka, Hikari Yokoyama and Dean Di Simone, allows collectors and art enthusiasts to explore their galleries without physically having to be there. By going virtual, Paddle8 has created an opportunity for artists to expose themselves to a demographic unrestricted by geographical constraints, making their exhibits accessible to anybody looking to expand their understanding of contemporary art and artists. Paddle8’s monthly exhibits are curated by influential cultural personalities who utilize their expertise to select a wide range of artists and themes to feature on their site. Each piece is accompanied by an editorial “dossier” that allows viewers to contemplate the piece within its original context, helping to educate the burgeoning online art community.
Curating the third of a series of virtual exhibitions is New Yorker photography critic Vince Aletti. His exhibition, titled STUFF: Still Life Photography, is inspired by the work of the late Irving Penn, whose still life photographs defined the genre for Aletti. He hand picked the photographers displayed in his exhibit based on their contemporary depictions of inanimate subject matter and their original contributions to the field as a whole. Each artist’s individual dossier include multimedia explaining the influences buried within their artwork and their personal approaches to photography, bringing a level of intimacy to the exhibition that is rarely seen.
Photographers featured in the exhibit include Roger Ballen, Talia Chetrit, William Eggleston, Dan Estabrook, Saul Fletcher, Tamar Halpern, Michael Huey, Peter Hujar, Louise Lawler, Richard Learoyd, McDermott & McGough, Laurent Millet, Ray Mortenson, Collier Schorr, Alec Soth, Wolfgang Tillmans, Sara VanDerBeek and Shen Wei. Their works will be available for purchase exclusively through Paddle8 over the course of the exhibition.
