“It was inspired by 90s new rave, kittens, holograms and images of Seapunk,” said Maroussia Rebecq on the new collection by Parisian slo-fashion collective, Andrea Crews. Speaking directly after the presentation, that was more like a happening in a tiny building above Pigalle where the audience stood in the street watching models revealed from windows (yes, the police turned up) - Maroussia took us through garments that included sporty dresses and jackets printed with the likeness of the rarely seen €500 bank-note, a blurred pixel print on t-shirt dresses and see-through plastic tracksuits. Brightly coloured, rave-tastic, techno prints are the mainstay of Andrea Crews and are usually spotted being worn at underground warehouse parties that happen in secrecy around Paris. A giant Persian cat, rainbows and unicorns featured on t-shirts too, all iconography associated with Seapunk, an internet trend by Generation Z that was acknowledged, surreally, by Lagerfeld at Chanel last season. Andrea Crews recycles and constructs garments from items deemed disposable by society and given new life by the collective who believe in DIY culture and a renewable future for fashion. Art, fashion, activism are the three cornerstones to the Andrea Crews manifesto. ‘Rave on’ should be tagged across everything too….
