Twenty-something design duo Cushnie et Ochs have designed a black & white, monotone, limited edition HTC mobile phone. After showing at MADE Fashion Week in New York the girls prepare to travel for the grand finale of the fashion month - Paris fashion week Sept 26 - Oct 4 - where MADE will be supporting eight designers.
Milk Made: Tell us about the HTC mobile phone.
Michelle Ochs: We were really excited to work with HTC. The phone itself has a beautiful aesthetic anyway but it was a really cool opportunity to bring the Cushnie art to the technology. It’s just really that sort of stark, classic, Cushnie feel.
Carly Cushnie: We went through a lot of designs with the HTC and at the end of the day, aesthetically, the monochrome worked for us because there is a duality with us anyways, so we always find that white and black, that kind of monochrome really references us.
MM: How would you describe the Cushnie et Ochs silhouette? I know it’s difficult when you’re living in the center of it, but what do you see as quintessential designs that you would pick out as being a Cushnie Ochs piece?
CC: It’s very much a refined sexy, really streamline, really clean, it’s very much about the line, about the female body. That’s something that Michelle and I, being woman, that we really want to focus on. So, it’s really about enhancing the female mind, accentuating the shapes, and making women feel comfortable.
MO: Being very clean and sharp, like always.
CC: It’s very seasonless, something we want our woman to continue wearing for years and years so she can mix and match different collections and can always wear it. It’s for a strong, sexy, sophisticated woman.
MM: How many seasons have you done so far?
MO: This will be our ninth.
MM: And when New York fashion week is over, what happens then?
CC: Then we’re going to Paris for the first MADE in Paris!
MM: See you there ladies.
