The closing show at MADE Fashion Week on the penultimate day of New York’s runway season, The Blonds NYC drew gasps with their booty beach-a-liscious collection of hi-octane bustiers and corsets. Each look was a pièce de résistance but the crystal jumpsuit that twinkled and shimmered as the model completed a perfect tour before the photographers drew applause from the audience. This, and the shark bustier worn by Phillip Blond, who made a dramatic entrance walking to the movie score of Jaws, fired the show from the shadows of Thierry Mugler’s Sasha Fierce into its own orbit.
With ‘beauty and the beach’ as the overall theme, there were more treasure to be unearthed upon closer inspection. Giant red lipsticks gathered around a models neck like a round of bullets matched a dress printed with lipstick marks. A dress made of over-sized plastic flowers such as the types worn by 50s swimming sensation Esther Williams was a delight, as was the sharks jaw necklace and pvc trunks worn by male model Sebastian Sauvé.
As New York Fashion week starts drawing to a end, The Blonds NYC delivered a vivid collection that completely cleansed the palette by injecting that much missed element of fun into the week that lit up the entire night.
