Y-3’s reputation is built on the designed technical pieces that so perfectly fills the yawning chasm in menswear that sits between the streetwear most guys are addicted to in their early twenties and the catwalk fashion you start to feel you should be wearing around thirty. Mesh hoodies and parkas sat alongside tailoring.
Of course Y-3 is also womenswear too, infact a lot of the most interesting, successful pieces with the innovative and stylish incorporations of the trademarked three stripes were for the fairer sex, deployed on tennis skirts and jersey shirts. There were also prints by longtime Y-3 collaborator, print designer Mr, Hayeshi imperial printmaker to the Japanese royal family.
Afterwards, Mr. Yamamoto said: “My desire was and still is to make sportswear elegant and chic. With Y-3, we created something that did not exist before. After 10 years, we are falling in love with the three stripes once more.”
