NICOLA FORMICHETTI WALKS US THROUGH VOGUE HOMMES JAPAN ISSUE 9

September 8, 2012 / Daryoush Haj-Najafi

It’s possible that Vogue Hommes Japan is the best men’s magazine in the world. Issue 9 has illustrations by GRIMES, yes the singer, and a cover shot by Hedi Slimane that looks to be the best VHJ cover yet - we’re feeling growing hysteria about it’s imminent release.

When we reached out to Nicola Formichetti for an interview, he said he could go one better and filmed a new installment of his youtube diary where he takes us through the new issue which, according to Nicola, is about “digital versus analogue.” Every story in the magazine has a digital counterpart, there’s even a story about Valentine Uhovski from Tumblr whose business card reads “Fashion Evangelist.” Uhovski runs the Tumblr fashion department, and he’s working from Milkmade.com’s office throughout New York Fashion Week.

Most excitingly, for a English speaking VHJ fanboy like myself, the ipad version out on September 18th comes complete with English translations of the articles. Basically, breaking it right down, if you have any interest in fashion or any aspirations to working in the industry you’d be an idiot to miss what amounts to an online Nicola Formichetti seminar.
