Isn’t Housse De Racket kind of the best name ever? I don’t speak French so I don’t know what it means (and I’m too lazy to ask Google) so I will pretend it means some sort of dessert food but, like, a bad-ass dessert (like an apple fritter or something). Coincidentally, this shaggy-haired duo (made up of Pierre Leroux and Victor Lesmanse) makes synth-punk that is equal parts sweet and sexy (also much like an apple fritter), and that is reminiscent of bands like Phoenix and Air (not coincidentally, as both were studio musicians for Air). These electro-eclair funny dudes will be bringing their dance-rock goodies to Coachella this weekend, and we got the chance to ask them a few questions beforehand. Here’s what they had to say:
Milk Made: If your hometown of had a theme song, what would it be?
Housse De Racket: We basically met in the 90’s thanks to a Pearl Jam shirt in the local music school. So that would be a Pearl Jam song from their ‘Ten’ album.
MM: Which Black Flag singer was your all time favorite? If you don’t know, get out of my face.
HDR: Henry Rollins would be the one… basically because it’s the only one we know. Yes, we have to admit we’re not Black Flag specialists. Should we get out of your face? (Ed Note: Ok fine, you can stay in front of my face).
MM: Describe your album using only food words:
HDR: Champagne, foie gras, baguette. (du pain, du vin, du boursin)
MM: What’s your #1 festival fashion boner killer?
MM: What’s the last song you want to hear before you die?
HDR: Toccata & Fugue in D minor by Jean-Sebastian Bach… A bit cliché but it would be quite something. Ego-trippy maybe!
MM: Madison Square Garden will pay you a million bucks to headline but ONLY if you appear on one of the following reality shows: a Dancing With The Stars b The Bachelor c Cupcake Wars d Khloe and Lamar e Dr Oz (you’re the house band)
HDR: We’re french, we don’t know all these reality shows… but we would love to headline the MSG though! For a million bucks, what would YOU do? (Ed Note: You don’t want to know…)
MM: You woke up in jail. What did you do?
HDR: We offended a journalist by not knowing Black Flag very well. We took perpetuity.
MM: What is your favorite fast food to eat on tour?
HDR: We try as hard as possible to avoid burgers… but burgers are stronger than our will. Our #1 so far would be the Five Guys ones! Ok, now we’re hungry…
