At approximately 10:00 pm, Milk Gallery wrapped up the book launch of Shane McCauley and Diplo’s photography collaboration entitled 128 Beats Per Minute: Diplo’s Visual Guide to Music, Culture, and Everything in Between. An hour occupied the space between the closing of the reception and the opening of Le Bain at The Standard. Zany party animals depleted the last of the booze and lingered in the gallery, awaiting the laid-back vibe and disco ball of The Standard’s top floor. The line outside Le Bain at 11:00 pm was already fifteen people deep, only elongating as the evening crept on. Jim-E Stack, a NoLa native on Diplo’s Mad Decent label, started the night off spinning some dope fusion mixes. Funk and hypnotic loops got the crowd prepped for Lloydski, who regularly spins house for hungry ravers at Submercer. Despite a fairly mellow start, the room ripened by 12:30 am. With the New York City skyline at their backs, guests with the magical entry stamp on their wrists got down and savored the gateway to the world via a multitude of senses.
