There’s no time like the present to have a first. The London-based duo Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason showed their collection for the first time in New York. We caught up with Helgason in France to see if he was still riding the wave of his successful show at MADE Fashion Week.
Milk Made: It’s a wrap! What are you feeling?
Ingvar Helgason: Excited and exhausted.
MM: What has all the feedback been like for the debut of your label?
IH: It couldn’t have gone better. We’re super happy about the reactions from WWD, Vogue.com and Style.com. It was definitely not something we expected from our debut presentation.
MM: People sometimes say the people in Paris and New York can be cold, or at least brusquely efficient. What has been your impression?
IH: Everyone has been really friendly and helpful so that is not something that we have experienced.
MM: How do you two work together on the label?
IH: Susanne designs the prints and selects the color palette, and then we work together on the silhouettes and cuts.
MM: How did you two meet?
IH: We met working for Marjan Pejoski back in 2003.
MM: Ah, before the Bjork swan era. What creatively, really makes you tick?
IH: Working with a great team of people where everyone contributes.
